Questions and answers

Answers to the questions people ask us most.

Who can join RDMH?

Anyone touched by kidney disease: people on dialysis, people living with chronic kidney disease, kidney transplant patients, and their families, caregivers and friends. Health care workers and community members are welcome too.

Does it cost anything?

No. Membership and our monthly meetings are completely free.

Do I have to live in Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan or Hyde Park?

No. Our roots are in those neighborhoods, but we welcome members from all of greater Boston and Massachusetts, and our Zoom meetings can be joined from anywhere.

How do I join the monthly meeting?

Some months we meet online on Zoom and some months in person. The Monthly Meetings page shows which is which for every date. Fill in the short "Reserve your Seat" form and we will email you the details, including the Zoom link for online meetings.

Why is the Zoom link not on the website?

To keep our group safe and private. Posting a meeting link publicly can let uninvited people disrupt a meeting, so we send it by email instead.

I have never used Zoom. Can I still come?

Yes. You can join on a computer, tablet or smartphone, or simply dial in on a regular telephone using the numbers in your invitation. Call 617-816-3608 and we will happily walk you through it.

Can my family come with me?

Absolutely. Kidney disease affects the whole family, and family members and caregivers are always welcome at our meetings and events.

What should I do if I am in crisis?

Call us at 617-816-3608 to talk with someone who understands. If you are in emotional crisis, you can also call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, at any time. For a medical emergency, always call 911.

Is the information on this website medical advice?

No. Our education pages explain the basics in plain words, but they do not replace your doctor, nurse or dialysis care team. Always ask them about your own health and treatment.

Can I share my story or suggest a guest speaker?

Yes, please do. Call 617-816-3608 or email barbara.gibbs@rcn.com. We love hearing from members.
