RDMHDialysis Patient Support Group

Our mission

To improve the quality of life for everyone on dialysis and everyone living with chronic kidney disease, and to help them and their families adjust to life with a chronic illness.

We formed a dialysis patient support group in the Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and Hyde Park communities to help patients and their families adjust to chronic illness such as kidney failure. Kidney failure is most often linked to diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), HIV, acute tubular necrosis (ATN), and related complications.

Our group focuses on outreach and advocacy for patients and their families. We teach about kidney failure, how the disease progresses, and the different forms of treatment, including hemodialysis, continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD), and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).

As a support group, we help patients and families cope with the daily emotional and social needs that come with illness, including the stress of unemployment and financial difficulties. We hope to provide a positive environment where patients always have access to a support person, twenty-four hours a day.

Our goal is to help patients find a support system, within our organization or in our community of greater Boston. We welcome support from, and work with, all area hospitals and freestanding dialysis units in greater Boston and Massachusetts.
